Halloween traditions with your family can be so much fun. As a kid, I always looked forward to trick-or-treating with my friends, enjoying some of my mom’s delicious soup, and dumping our candy buckets on the floor to see what we had collected. I have so many fond memories of our Halloween celebrations and I hope to recreate those times with Ellianna in the future. That being said, my little angel is only one and Halloween with a baby and/or young toddler can be a little tricky. Babies aren’t quite old enough for all the shenanigans and often need to be in bed right when the festivities are taking place. However,  they are still SO MUCH FUN to dress up and show off to the world. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of fun activities to do with a baby on Halloween in lieu of trick or treating!

Oh, and P.S: if you want to trick-or-treat, more power to you!! Trick or Treating babies are adorable and well received in our home!

Host a gathering

If you don’t want to take your little one out on the town, you can invite the town to you instead! Well…not exactly. But you could invite a few other mom friends, your parents/ in-laws and any other close friends and family members that would like to see your baby all dressed up for Halloween. You don’t have to have a crazy bash. A simple hot cider and candy apple buffet will do!

Dress up and hand out candy

This is the activity we enjoy most. Handing out candy to all of the kids that come to your door is so much FUN! You can dress up your little one and allow them to participate in the shenanigans for as long as they will allow! It was a bit chilly for Ellie last year. Luckily, her little lamb costume kept her nice and snuggly warm.

How cute was she?!!! You can find this little lamb costume here!

Trick or Treat at a Nursing Home

When I polled a few people on what they do for Halloween with their babies, I couldn’t believe how many responses I got for “Trick or Treating at a Nursing Home.” What a cool idea!! Check to see if any of your local nursing homes offer and/or allow this. Not only is it warmer for the baby, but it brings so much joy to the residents. What could be better than that?

Dress up baby and take him or her around town during the DAY

Who says you have to dress up at night? You can absolutely put your kiddo in his or her costume during the day and show the world how darn cute they look! In some towns, the local library will offer a Halloween story time, a costume parade, or a daytime trunk or treat. Check your local newspaper to see what types of activities are available. If you don’t see anything appealing, you could always organize a costume meet and greet at the local park with your playgroup!

Stay in, watch Halloween movies & eat fall flavored foods

If you don’t really feel like taking the baby out at all, you could always bring Halloween indoors! Put baby to bed. Then, curl up on the couch and watch Halloween themed movies while eating warm soup, pumpkin muffins and lots of candy!!

What do you think? Do any of these ideas sound like they would work for your family?

I think this year we will partake in a few!
